The Tomball Fire Department has scheduled its 2014 Citizens Fire Academy to begin on July 24 at 7 p.m. The 16 week program will be held on Thursday nights from 7 p.m. until approximately 9:30 p.m. Additionally, there will be four practical skill sessions occurring on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The course work will culminate in a live fire training scenario on a Saturday at the end of the class.
The Academy program will educate its participants about topics including a history of the fire service and the Tomball Fire Department, turn-out gear, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), fire apparatus, ladders, hose streams, advancing hose lines, ventilation, fire extinguishers, fire behavior, incident command and other interesting topics. Sessions will include classroom education and hands on application. One week will also be set aside for CPR training.
There is no cost to attend the Citizens Fire Academy and attendees will be provided with all of the equipment necessary to participate. Physical activity will be limited to the comfort levels of each participant. All classes will taught by the highly experienced and certified firefighters of the Tomball Fire Department. The department encourages locals to come and join them as they provide a highly informative opportunity to meet their firefighters and learn what it is like to be one of them.
