DALLAS (AP) — Dallas police say a 16-year-old girl who was in her room has been shot after someone outside her home opened fire on the residence.

Police say five other people suffered minor injuries from flying glass during the incident early Wednesday.

Investigators say no one has been arrested. Police are trying to determine a motive for the attack. Several bullets went into the residence.

Police say the girl was asleep but awoke when she heard several gunshots from outside. The teen was shot in the torso but police say she was in good condition when transported to a Dallas hospital. Her name hasn't been released.

Further details were not immediately available.

DALLAS (AP) — Storms in North Texas have knocked out power to thousands of homes and businesses and damaged about a dozen small planes.

Dallas-based Oncor (ON'-kor) reports more than 18,000 customers still without electricity Monday afternoon as crews worked to restore power.

The National Weather Service says wind gusts of more than 70 mph were recorded Sunday night in the Fort Worth area. Authorities have no reports of major damage or injuries.

Some small planes outside a hangar at Fort Worth's Meacham (MEE'-chum) International Airport were damaged by wind-tossed debris.

The American Red Cross was sending bottled water to residents whose homes lost power or suffered damage, including parts of Haltom City, Kennedale and Eagle Mountain Lake. Forecasters predicted another hot day Monday, with temperatures above 100 degrees.

DALLAS (AP) — A Dallas hospital has announced the birth of quintuplets.

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center said Monday that the three boys and two girls are in stable condition.

Hospital officials say the youngsters were born premature Thursday to missionaries Carrie and Gavin Jones.

The quintuplets have been named Will Edward, David Stephen, Marcie Jane, Seth Jared and Grace Elise Jones. Their birth weights ranged from 1 pound, 12 ounces to 2 pounds, 11 ounces.

Dr. Gary Burgess says the babies are doing as expected for quintuplets born at 27 weeks. They remain in the neonatal intensive care unit at UT Southwestern's St. Paul University Hospital.

The parents also have an 8-year-old son.

DALLAS (AP) — The first aerial spraying of insecticides in the Dallas area since the 1960s is set for this week in the battle against the worst outbreak of West Nile virus in the nation so far this year.

An official with the company hired to spray for mosquitoes in Dallas County says at least two planes will be in position by Thursday evening.

Clarke spokeswoman Laura McGowan said Tuesday that the chemical, synthetic pyrethroid (py-REE-throid), will be spread in small amounts and is safe for residents.

Truck spraying continued Monday in Dallas County, where 10 deaths have been attributed to West Nile virus this year. Mosquitoes carry the virus from birds to humans.

Dallas County had aerial spraying in 1966 for an encephalitis outbreak that resulted in more than a dozen deaths.

DALLAS (AP) — Two brothers have been charged with robbing the same North Texas bank twice.

Federal prosecutors in Dallas on Wednesday announced the indictment of 43-year-old James Robert Cleveland Butler and 45-year-old Johnny Charles Butler.

The siblings allegedly held up a Bank of America branch in Forney last Nov. 25 and again on May 18. Both were arrested following an Aug. 2 standoff at their home in Quinlan, about 25 miles northeast of Forney.

Each brother faces two counts of armed bank robbery and one count of possessing a firearm during a violent crime.

Johnny Butler is also charged with assault on a federal officer and discharging a firearm during a crime. Prosecutors say gunfire came from within the Butler home during the standoff. Johnny Butler was wounded before the pair surrendered.
