There's a new place to shop in Magnolia that could keep cash in your wallet, while helping others in need.
The Society of Samaritans (SOS) opened its resale shop on FM 1488 last week and looks to sell high quality items.
"This is a high-end resale shop," said store manager Linda Sanders. "This will be just another way for people to give back, as everything taken in will go back into the community."
Sanders said the shop was a vision of SOS President Ray Weed.
Weed said that he hopes the store will allow the group to help even more people in the community.
"Several years ago the Lord put it in my heart to do this," he said. "We spend more than $4,000 a month in food and we want this to help provide even more."
Sanders said the store will carry name brand clothes, shoes, purses and other items and they eventually want to carry high end furniture as well.
"It's a great place to shop for back-to-school and many of our items still have the tags on them – they've never been worn," she said.
Once it was decided to open a resale shop, SOS members and volunteers began putting back certain items for the store, as preparation. The resale shop will also serve as the new donation site for items, except for furniture. The Little Twig location will still serve as a donation center and distribution site for those that need help.
The store has an infant and toddler section, a boys and men's section and a ladies section. It is staffed by volunteers who are looking to give back to the Magnolia area.
"I'm excited,: said Charlene Cox. "It allows me to give back and be a part of the community. I've been retired for 10 years, so it's nice to get to do a service for the Lord."
Volunteer Karen Fish agreed.
"It's a good opportunity for us to be able to minister to the community and it's a good thing for the people to have an option to buy quality items at a good price," she said.
The store is planning to hold a grand opening towards the end of the month. They are asking community members to donate plastic bags and children's clothes hangers, as well.
The SOS Resale Shop is located on FM 1488, between Family Dollar and Arlan's Market in Magnolia.
