Deputies from the Harris County Pct. 4 Constables office recently napped three men in a major copper theft from a wastewater station near Burroughs Park.
Keenan Scott Lehmann, 39, Justin Wayne Smith, 32 and Justin Edward Keith, 28, were charged with Criminal Mischief after a deputy constable stopped them for a traffic violation near the station.
Deputy K. Cooke pulled over a black 2003 Chevy Silverado, occupied by the three men who had been observed stopping at several construction sites. The deputy became suspicious following a rash of thefts at construction sites in the area.
Cooke observed several breakers and copper wiring in the bed of the truck.
A press release from the constable's office stated that one of the suspect's admitted to stealing the material from the lift station on Preserve Way.
"One of the suspects during the traffic stop admitted that he along with the other two occupants in the vehicle had just committed the theft at the lift station," the release stated. "Damages to the lift station were estimated to exceed $20,000."
"These suspects caused $40,000 worth of damage to the facility," said assistant chief Mark Herman. Lehman also had a warrant for forgery.
All three men are currently being held in the Harris County Jail.
