Tomball Police arrested a man in the process of beating and choking a woman near the Tribune office last week.
Police said that Anthony Aaron Royal, 30, of Tomball, found his ex-girlfriend at a laundry facility on Magnolia Street.
"She fled from him at that time and he caught up to her in an alleyway just south of Main Street," said Tomball Police Cpt. Rick Grassi. "He tried to talk to her about their relationship and didn't like what he heard, because he struck her in the face."
At that point, Grassi said that Royal allegedly grabbed the woman around her neck with his arm and began dragging her down the alleyway. Someone from a nearby restaurant or motel saw the incident and called police.
Police arrived and arrested Royal at gunpoint, where they transported him to the Tomball city jail. He was later transferred to the Harris County Jail.
The victim was transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.
Royal is a man who Tomball Police and other law enforcement agencies have dealt with before.
"We arrested him a few months prior to this incident for family violence," Grassi said.
Royal had recently pled no contest last November to those charges and served a little more than a month in the Harris County Jail. He also has a string of prior drug related arrests in Harris County.
The Harris County District Attorney's Office also filed an emergency order of protection against Royal, on behalf of the victim, which a judge approved.
Royal has been charged with a felony domestic violence charge, because he choked the woman. Grassi explained that anytime that an assault occurs where someone impedes the victim's ability to breathe; charges are automatically updated to a third degree felony.
As of press time Royal was still in the Harris County Jail, held with no bond. A court appearance was held Feb. 8, but results of that appearance were not yet available.
HOUSTON (AP) — Houston police have shot and killed a man who allegedly fired into his estranged wife's office then tried to enter the building.
Internal affairs officers are reviewing Tuesday afternoon's shooting. Police say the officer who fatally shot the suspect has been with the force since 1984.
Police say a 911 call from the woman, who had a restraining order against her husband, summoned officers.
Investigators say the suspect, who briefly ducked into a waiting taxi he apparently took to the building, refused to put down a pistol and threatened to harm his spouse. An officer shot the husband before the suspect could enter the woman's building.
Houston police believe the gunman, whose name was not immediately released, was also responsible for a shot fired into the building early Tuesday.

ABILENE, Texas (AP) — Police in West Texas have shot and killed a gunman who allegedly slipped into his estranged wife's home by removing an air conditioner.
Abilene Police Chief Stan Standridge says the man died at a hospital following Wednesday morning's shooting. The wife wasn't hurt.
The woman called 911 to say her estranged spouse was in her bedroom. Police say the man apparently removed a window air conditioning unit to get inside and threatened to kill her. He then allegedly walked to the backyard.
Standridge says the 49-year-old man, whose name wasn't immediately released, had a loaded revolver. The suspect allegedly pointed the gun at officers and wouldn't surrender.
Both officers opened fire and shot him several times.
The officers have been put on administrative leave during a review of the incident.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Chris Brown is scheduled to return to a Los Angeles courtroom for the first time in more than a year amid questions about his community service.
The R&B singer is on probation for the 2009 beating of his then-girlfriend Rihanna and had been ordered to perform six months' worth of community service, including graffiti removal, roadside cleanup and other manual labor.
Brown has completed his terms with praise from a judge, however a prosecutor raised concerns about how many hours he had completed.
The singer has received praise from a judge overseeing his probation for the 2009 beating of Rihanna, but an audit of his community service was ordered in July.
Brown was also ordered to appear in court for a review of his probation on Monday.
