The Tomball Republican Women's Club will host Commissioner Jerry Patterson Sept. 26, at 7 p.m., at the Lone Star College-Tomball Library in Room L-129, 30555 Tomball Parkway. All of the Candidates for Lieutenant Governor have been invited to speak and may be present at the meeting. There is no charge to attend.
Patterson currently serves as the 27th Commissioner of the General Land Office, the oldest elected position in Texas history, which was established immediately after the Texas Revolution in 1836.
Patterson graduated from Texas A&M University in 1969 and was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. After volunteering for duty in Vietnam, Patterson was later designated as a Naval Flight Officer and served in Marine fighter squadrons until his retirement from the Marine Corps Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1993. Five consecutive generations of Patterson's family have served our nation in times of war.
From 1993 through 1999, Patterson served as state senator for District 11, which includes Harris, Galveston, and Brazoria counties. In November 2002, Patterson was elected to be the 27th Texas Land Commissioner. He was re-elected to a third term in 2010.
