The football season is heating up, as area teams took to the field for their second and, in the case of Tomball, third games of the season.
Jersey Village 34
The Cougars were outmanned in every phase, as they took it on the chin in losing to 5A Jersey Village 34-0 Sept. 5.
Tomball was led by the duo of quarterback Weston Shattuck, who was 9-17 passing for 130 yards, while receiver Kade Barnes was the recipient of four of those passes for 66 yards.
Mayde Creek 14
The Cougars secured their first win of the season using a power running attack, defeating Katy Mayde Creek 27-14 Sept. 12.
Schattuck had 138 yards rushing, while Xavier Powell added 61 yards and Percy Alford rushed for 155 more. Each had a rushing touchdown.
The Bulldogs seemingly had their first win within reach heading into halftime, but a bad second half doomed them.
Down just 29-28 midway through the fourth quarter, Magnolia allowed Bryan to reel off 13 unanswered points for the win.
Magnolia West 14
Houston Stratford 28
The Mustangs had a poor third quarter and it spelled their demise, as they fell
to Houston Stratford 28-14 Sept. 5. The loss evens their record at 1-1.
Magnolia West could only muster 261 yards of offense, led by quarterback Troy Logan's 167 yards through the air and 42 yards on the ground.
Tomball Memorial 19
Galena Park 14
The Wildcats picked up their first victory of 2013, as running back Josh and Ethan Williams paced a steady ground attack.
Both scored touchdowns and Tomball Memorial played some stingy defense as well to improve to 1-1.
