Fields Store Elementary School held their annual Spelling Bee recently, which was won by fifth grader Alyssa Sustaita. After 21 grueling rounds, Sustaita won by spelling the word congratulations. The runner up was third grade student Makenzi Chance. The Spelling Bee is coordinated and judged by librarian Alicia Werst. Pictured are (from left) Alicia Werst, Makenzi Chance and Spelling Bee winner, Alyssa Sustaita. Alyssa will advance to the Region V Spelling Bee in Bellville, this spring.
Lauren Chesshir was named the 2013 Spelling Bee Champion at Salem Lutheran School. Chessir, a third grader spelled the word caricature to win the contest. Willow Wood Junior High School seventh grade student Alexander Ho took the top spot in the Tomball ISD Spelling Bee. Northpointe Intermediate School fifth grade student Priya Malhotra took second place. After 51 rounds of spelling words, Ho won the bee by correctly spelling the word quinine. This was the second consecutive year that Ho and Malhotra competed in the TISD Spelling Bee.
Tomball Elementary fourth grade student Giancarlo Maldonado (right) took first place at the Tomball ISD Bilingual Spelling Bee. Canyon Pointe Elementary third grade student Andrea Torres (left) took second place. Both students spent hours each day practicing spelling words after school. Maldonado won the competition in nine rounds after correctly spelling the word diamond in English and Spanish.
