Tomball grabs first state championship

They told themselves all year they were supposed to do this. Yet, after the final out was recorded and the Tomball Cougars were officially the Texas Class 4A state baseball champions, the emotions were still overwhelming. Pitcher Robert Dugger raised his hands in the air and let out a loud scream, while others rushed to mob him near the pitcher's mound. Tomball defeated Wichita Falls Rider and Corpus Christi Moody in the state tournament last weekend to bring home Tomball's first championship trophy.After starting the season on a 22-game winning streak, winning a district title and cruising through the playoffs…

Waller celebrates Class of 2013

Waller High School graduated more than 300 students in the Class of 2013. More than 80 percent of the graduates will be pursuing a post high school level education, in either a college, trade school or technical school.

Nearly 700 seniors took part in the Tomball High School Commencement Ceremony at Reed Arena. Magnolia council approves July 4th plans

Recently elected or re-elected Magnolia City Council members Anne Sundquist, Jeff Chumley and Richard Carby were sworn in at the city council meeting June 11 and Patsy Williams was re-elected Mayor Pro Tem for the city. Council members approved $5,000 for the Renaissance Festival for its 2013 sponsorship of the city. They then agreed to approve a contract, once amendments including a reschedule date and insurance statement are added, for $10,000 to American Fireworks, for the display planned for the Fourth of July Celebration in Unity Park. Brother pleads guilty in murder of Tomball man

A man accused of murdering his brother pled guilty in Brazos County court last week and was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Kyle Wischnewsky, 28, of Shepherd, shot his brother Cliff, 43, of Tomball, to death March 22, 2012, after accompanying him on a trip to buy two four-wheelers. Kyle and Cliff traveled to Brazos County to purchase a pair of ATV's. Cliff was carrying $14,000 on him to purchase the ATV's and asked his brother to accompany him in order to help. A Tomball man was killed and his son was severely injured, following a crash May 25 on FM 2978, near Dobbin-Hufsmith Road. State troopers responded to the scene around 9 p.m. to find Magnolia firefighters working to remove victims from two vehicles. All three were in critical condition and transported to area hospitals via Life Flight. Troopers said a 1997 Nissan driven by Piper Landon, 21, of The Woodlands, was traveling northbound and crossed the center line. The top two graduates for the 2013 senior class at Tomball High School have many things in common – extracurricular activities, grades, friends and they both attribute their success to one thing – hard work. Rachel Mai and Amy Shaklovitz have been named as the top performers in their senior class of nearly 700 graduates. Diabetes no deterrent to students success

Three little girls at Magnolia ISD's J.L. Lyon elementary have had the burden of coping with Type 1 diabetes all their lives, but all three have managed their illness along with their studies. All are honor roll students and excited about their upcoming summer vacation. And they all receive help handling their medical needs by the caring staff at J.L. Lyon. Fourth graders Lauren Williford and Lauren Weatherford, along with fifth grader Kylie Wilson, happily displayed their honor roll certificates and talked about managing their diabetes. Led by the Magnolia West High Interact Club members, students at MISD's Williams Elementary are going "green" this spring. For the past ten weeks, the students have been collecting recyclable plastic bottles and aluminum cans and bringing them to school. They collected more than 125 bags of them, which surpassed their original goal of 100. To spur their efforts, they made posters encouraging others to recycle, which were all entered into a contest. Thanks to counselor Pamela Fairchild and sponsor HEB, on May 28, six students received $10 awards for their winning posters in the school's regular morning assembly. Winners…

Early last Monday morning May 6, Montgomery County 911 dispatchers received a call about a bad wreck on FM 1774, south of Magnolia. When Magnolia firefighters arrived around 1:30 a.m., they found a white 2008 Dodge pickup truck in a ravine off the side of the road, near Hunters Lane. Officials said that the truck veered off the road and cut through several trees, before ending up on its side.
