UPDATED at 2:10 p.m. HOUSTON (AP) — A shooting on a Texas community college campus wounded at least two people Tuesday and sent students fleeing for safety as officials placed the campus on lockdown, officials said. Authorities had at least one person in custody, according to a law enforcement official in Washington who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the ongoing case. Tomball ISD’s Neubauer announces retirement

Tomball Superintendent John Neubauer will soon be turning off the lights in his office for the final time, as he will retire following a career spanning more than 45 years.Neubauer submitted a letter of resignation to the Tomball school board Jan. 14. Students preparing for annual Tomball FFA show

The sounds and smells of goats, pigs, turkeys, cows and other farm animals will fill the air this weekend, as students from both Tomball high schools diligently prepare for the annual Tomball Future Farmers of America (FFA) project sale and show.This year brings the 37th incarnation of the event, which allows FFA members to show and hopefully sell the animals they spent all year raising, feeding and caring for. Tomball man sentenced in federal Sprint fraud case

A Tomball man was recently sentenced to three years of probation, after pleading guilty to aiding and abetting device fraud in federal court.Troy Alexander Tipton, 21, was charged, after federal prosecutors said he sold Spring cellular phone customer data and access information to another man. Tipton was an employee of Modern Wireless at the time. Tipton pleaded guilty to the charges last August.Prosecutors said that Tipton sold data from at least 400 customer accounts to Vernon R. Magnolia students take top honors at science fair

Two teams of Magnolia ISD students, one from Magnolia West High School and one from Magnolia Junior High, received a top "Best of Show" prize for their projects at the district's annual science fair, Jan. 12.Magnolia West High students Samantha Gerthe and Dakota Stormer won for their entry: Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome: Simple! Tomball council approves changes to fencing rules

The Tomball City Council recently approved changes to city rules governing fences after some long discussion over two meetings. The council had previously tabled the changes during the Dec. 17 meeting, after asking City Planner Rebecca Guerra to add additional requirements and standards to the already proposed changes. "We came before you and you requested that the item be tabled and that staff reexamine items," Guerra told council. Last year was the second time that Magnolia High School Principal Jeffrey Springer was selected as a regional winner for the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) Principal of the Year award -- but this time it was different. The City of Magnolia recently implemented its first comprehensive plan, while also growing and expanding its boundaries in 2012. With that plan now in full swing and money problems a thing of the past; the city hosted a review of the past year, Magnolia on the Move, Jan. 8. Parents of students in Magnolia were a bit on edge last week, after receiving a phone call from the district stating that a student had brought a weapon to school. Magnolia ISD officials said that they received information that a student at J.L. Lyon Elementary was in possession of a weapon, Jan. 9. "Staff quickly recovered an unloaded firearm without incident," the district said in a written statement.
