A Huntsville man now sits in the Harris County Jail, after assaulting a Tomball Walmart employee when he tried to leave the store without paying for some juice.
Tomball police say that Stanley Eugene Lapole, 23, walked into the Tomball Walmart shirtless, drawing the attention of several Walmart loss prevention officers who were in the store for a training exercise.
They allege that Lapole then grabbed a carton of juice and walked out of the store with it. When a loss prevention officer confronted the man in the parking lot, they claim that Lapole punched the employee in the face. A struggle then ensued, where Lapole was struck several times in the face by the employee. He wrestled free and ran.
"He hit one of the security guys," said Tomball Detective Yoho. "One of them tried to detain him and (Lapole) punched him in the lip."
Tomball Police found the man hiding inside the Hobby Lobby store on Tomball Parkway, where he was arrested.
Yoho said Lapole turned what would have been a simple shoplifting charge into a robbery charge by punching the Walmart employee.
Court records show that Lapole has had several run-ins with police in the past.
Records show that Lapole is still in the Harris County Jail, held on a $10,000 bond. His next court appearance is set for July 19.
