| Former Waller Chamber employee indicted for theft |
|
A former Waller Chamber of Commerce employee has been charged with two counts of theft following a months-long investigation into the misuse of the organization’s funds.
Rhonda Vickery, 44, of Conroe, was indicted last month by a Waller County Grand Jury on two counts of felony theft. According to a Waller County District Attorney’s Office press release, Vickery was alleged to have stolen between $20,000 and $100,000 over the course of her 15-month employment with the Chamber. Vickery was fired last December after Chamber president Trey Duhon and other employees noticed discrepancies in financial records. After an investigation by the Waller Police Department, the Waller County District Attorney’s office took over the case. The former office manager also has a history of theft in Montgomery County, according to public records. Duhon previously stated he was not aware she had a criminal record when she was hired. If convicted, Vickery could face between 2 and 10 years in prison and pay up to $10,000 in fines. She could also be ordered to repay all money stolen from the Chamber. In another Waller County alleged theft case, Waller County Sheriff’s officers continue to work through evidence in the investigation of alleged misuse of funds by Fields Store Elementary principal Mary Davis, who was suspended Feb. 17 after allegedly misusing school funds. John Kramer of the Sheriff’s office said investigators received many more subpoenaed documents last week and hope to wrap up the investigation soon.
