| TISD bus accident sends 9 students to hospital |
|
Nine Tomball ISD intermediate students were hospitalized Tuesday morning after the school bus in which they were traveling was hit from behind. According to Tomball ISD Communications Director Staci Stanfield, the bus was on its way to Northpointe Intermediate School traveling on SH 249 near Canyon Gate when the bus was rear-ended by a pick-up truck. Harris County Sheriff deputies and Northwest EMS units responded to the crash, which occurred at approximately 7:20 a.m. this morning. Of the 19 on board, 18 were students who attended either fifth or sixth grade at Northpointe Intermediate. Stanfield said nine of the students, as well as the bus’ driver, were transported to Tomball Regional Hospital as a precaution. She said there “did not appear to be any broken bones,” but several passengers, as well as the driver, complained of neck pain. After identifying the students, Northpointe and Tomball ISD administrators contacted the parents and notified them of the accident. No information has become available regarding the status of the driver of the pick-up truck. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
