Rotary Club’s annual fish fry hailed as a success

rick breading The Tomball Rotary Club held its 41st Annual Fish Fry April 16 at Jeurgen’s Park. The club holds the fish fry each year in order to raise money for its charitable efforts.

Ideal weather conditions brought more than 1,000 local residents out to Jeurgen’s Park to take part in one of Tomball’s longest running traditions. Each year, the Tomball Rotary Club holds a raffle for a classic car, this year a 1974 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. The winner of the car was Mary Bracken of Houston.

The second prize in the raffle, a motorcycle donated by Scooters of Tomball, was won by Mike Carlisle. Sandy Kilson won the third prize, a watch. The club sold 477 “Gold Tickets” for the car raffle, which netted the club $47,700.

In addition, a toy raffle brought in $930, while the live and silent auction earned the club $5,500. Rotary Club President Dennis Snodgrass estimated the club raised approximately $65,000 during the event.

The money, he added, would eventually go toward providing local high school students with college scholarships and to such Tomball community charities as TEAM, Helping Heroes, TOMAGWA, Boys and Girls Country, the Giving Gown Foundation, PERC and more.

“We try to help out as many (local charities) as we can,” Snodgrass said.

The Tomball Rotary Club meets each Wednesday at noon at the Tomball Community Center, located at 221 Market St.
