| Vandals destroy Magnolia West’s mustang mascot |
|
A gift to Magnolia West High School donated by this year’s senior class has been destroyed and police are on the lookout for the suspects. A mascot portraying the Magnolia West High School (MWHS) Mustang was vandalized and partially destroyed last week. The statue, which was made of a mixture of fiberglass and plaster, had only been up a month, said Precinct 5 Constable David Hill. The 2010 senior class of MWHS raised $6,000 to purchase and install the mascot in front of the school. The body of the mustang was ripped off its base and left on the ground near where it stood. The tail and head were taken by the culprits. Tire tracks covered the pavement next to the grassy median where the statue stood. Hill said deputies with the Constable’s office are investigating the incident. Magnolia ISD spokesperson Charlie Brown said in an e-mail that the district “is waiting for the final report from the Constable's office before making any decisions regarding disciplinary action, and that's only if those responsible are students.” As of press time last week, no arrests had been made in the incident and the portions of the statue that were stolen had not been recovered.
