Tomball man facing child porn charges

A Tomball area is facing a grand jury indictment and possible prison sentence after he was accused of keeping hundreds of pictures and videos of child pornography on a computer.

Charles Satterfield, 65, was arrested July 2 after a seventh-month long investigation by Tomball Police and the FBI and charged with two felony counts of possession of child pornography. He was released on $40,000 bail shortly after his arrest and could be facing a possible indictment by a grand jury, according to Eric Devlin, Deputy Commander of the Houston Metro Internet Crimes Against Children Division.

According to Devlin, Satterfield brought his computer to a local service company after it froze up. While repairing Satterfield’s computer, the technician discovered a hidden folder that contained “hundreds” of images of under boys and girls performing sexual acts with each other, as well as with adults, Devlin said.

The technician returned the computer to Satterfield and contacted Tomball Police. Det. Albert Chambers, Tomball Police and the FBI then conducted an investigation which lasted seven months and concluded with Satterfield’s arrest in July.

According to Chambers, Satterfield works as an inspector for Harris County and was arrested by members of the Houston Police Department at his place of employment.

According to Devlin, Satterfield admitting to having an addiction to pornography and that his addiction cost him his marriage. Devlin also said Satterfield claimed he had never engaged in sexual activity with a child.

Following his arrest, two more computers were seized by investigators and are currently being examined, Chambers said. Depending on what is discovered on those computers, Satterfield could be facing more charges.

Devlin explained that each illegal image could bring its own individual charge, and “will try for a whole bunch” should the case go to trial. A charge of possession of child pornography carries a sentence of 1 to 10 years in prison.
