City’s showcase event, Tomball Night, returns for 38th year

Tomball is gearing up for its marquee event, the 38th Annual Tomball Night, sponsored annually by the Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce and drawing tens of thousands of local residents to the city, set for this Friday, Aug. 6.

Festivities begin at 5 p.m. and will include dozens of food, craft and informational booths, sales and specials at many local retailers and kids’ activities such as bounce houses, face painting and more.

Beginning at 9:15 p.m. is the 8th Annual Parade of Lights, which begins on Main Street and Buvinghausen Street and continues east through Tomball, ending at the railroad tracks.

Wrapping up the evening’s events again this year will be a fireworks show.

With an opportunity to promote Tomball Night, a delegation from the Greater Area Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce traveled July 28 to the Channel 11 studios in Houston to be a part of Great Day Houston.

The 20 Chamber representatives, wearing red-white-and blue, were there to promote the upcoming Tomball Night.

“With ‘great’ in common, the pairing was a natural,” Tomball Night Chair Mary Harvey said. “The red-white-and blue we wore called attention to this year’s Tomball Night and its Parade of Lights theme, Stars and Stripes.”

Tomball Night, which began in 1972, draws tens of thousands each year to an evening of celebration and fun when a festival-like atmosphere takes over Main Street and beyond. Tomball retailers and restaurants keep their doors open late for special offers that begin on Tomball Night with many extended through the weekend. And, music, food, rides and more dominate the city for this unique evening.

Returning this year, is an annual tradition in which those who identify special “mystery shoppers,” identifiable by clues provided in this year’s Tomball Night Poem (below) are given $100 on the spot.

A limited number of parade entries are still being accepted by the Chamber. For more information about Tomball Night and the Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce, call 281-351-7222 or visit, TomballChamber.org.

Mystery Shopper Poem

By Judy Heard of Granny’s Korner

The stars August 6th will shine big and bright.

Fun, food, and sales ‘cause it is Tomball Night.

Ten mystery shoppers will sport stars of red, white and blue.

Just ask and a $100 bill will be just for you!
