| Outsider influence questioned as day labor site debate continues |
|
On Aug. 27 and 28, representatives of a group calling themselves “We the People – Concerned Citizens of Tomball,” staged a pair of protests at the entrance of the city’s Day Labor Site off Main Street just west of the rail road tracks. Holding signs and chanting and calling out protests on bullhorns, the small crowd of a dozen or came from all parts of the Houston area to converge on Tomball. Pictured, a group of protesters stage a rally Aug. 27 at the entrance to the Tomball Day Labor Site. They came to protest the use of the Day Labor Site and the city’s involvement of the facility. Earlier this summer, it was brought to the attention of the Tomball City Council that a lease contract with the property owners where the site is located expired and was up for renewal. For the past 10 years, the City of Tomball has paid the property taxes on the site, about $1,500 a year. Now that the lease is up, the council is considering not renewing the lease. Many Tomball residents, however, have come out in support of the site, claiming it helps keep the streets clear of day laborers, many of whom are suspected of being illegal immigrants. But recently, opponents of the site have made their voice heard at city council meetings and on the streets of Tomball. However, the vast majority of those speaking out against the site live outside the city limits, and that may be a factor in an upcoming decision by council. “I represent the citizens and the business people of Tomball,” council man Mark Stoll said. “I don’t represent the people who try to tell Tomball and the residents what to do.” At a recent city council meeting, nine people spoke out against the day labor site, asking the council to close it down, or not support it. None of those who spoke lived within the city limits. Newly-elected council man Preston Dodson said most of the city residents he has heard from want the Day Labor Site to remain. “What I have heard is basically what was stated at the public comment session at city council meetings, that the residents of Tomball are by and large in favor of having the Day Labor Site stay right where it is, because it tends to manage a problem,” he said. “The people that are, with a couple of exceptions, speaking out against it are outside the city. I think they are the same people that are promoting the demonstrations.” Both Stoll and Dodson said they supported the right of the groups to protest, however. “Those people are free to do what they want,” Stoll said. “The great thing about our country is you have the right to protest.” Dodson questioned the influence such protests may be having on local residents. “Some of those signs say ‘Honk if you want the Day Labor Site to close.’ I don’t hear a whole lot of honking,” he added. You are correct Zira. This has NOTHING to do with race! It has to do with the word illegal! I am so sick of the race card being played everytime law abiding citizens disagree with things that are wrong in this country. One day America is going to wake up to find that legal law abiding citizens are a minority in their own country. Wonder what the bleeding heart librals will have to say then?

Our federal government cares more about the people outside the US than they do the legal citizens inside the US. I, like many other people was born in the US, my parents, grandparents and great grandparents were born in the US but yet legal, law abiding citizens are treated like we are the enemy. The good people of America had better start standing up otherwise they may never have the chance again.

Typical of the news media to not report the REAL facts. I was present at the Tomball City Council meeting and although there were quite a few of the speakers from outside the city limits including the Houston Communist Party and La Raza who both spoke in favor of the keeping the Day Labor Site..where was that mentioned in the article...but our local media didn't even mention that a gentleman presented a petition with 68 names on it in favor of closing the labor site down and all of those names were residents within the city limits...Come on Tribune get the facts right if you are going to call yourself a legitmate newspaper...

Brian, David Smith and his wife both spoke at Tomball City Council on September 7th both identified themselves as members of the Progressive Workers' Party. And some of the speakers identified themselves with the Houston Communist Party. Get the audio of the meeting and you will hear all of the said groups identify themselves. Otherwise, how would I have known who they were? I am not a member nor a supporter of either group. This is not an a*sumption this is fact. But don't take my word for it get the audio and check it out yourself as a reporter for your paper you owe to your readers to report the truth and the facts of who spoke at the meeting.

dont you people get it , its not about RACE .. its about being ILLEGAL..these illegals can and have walk right up to you and kill you , and run off, as they have and will continue.. till you get your belly full of this disgrace.. we have put up with this TO LONG..PLEASE STAND UP WITH YOUR FELLOW AMERICANS , AND FIGHT AGAIN, TO GET ILLEGALS OUT OF AMERICA.
Just think , when you have a encounter with one of these illegals,. as so many have done before, what are you going to say Example: " well he /she was a mexican, about 5'5 5'6.. and black hair , brown eyes.. " dud dud dud.. well that just about describes the whole bunch, there is no trace, no ID.. no nothing!
You better start thinking hard on this now, and do whats right, and thats stand together, and get illegals out of American,, out OF Tomball and Magnolia!
I pray we get the Arizonia law! .. and why shouldnt we , by GOD.. we as Tax paying Americans are asked for our ID's on a everyday basis.. to enroll our children, to cash a check , etc!! think about it.. why shouldn't they have to tell us who they are? show proof, with out a fake id?
REMEMBER FOLKS,, THIS IS ABOUT BEING ILLEGAL, NOT RACE..
Stand together !!
