Suspect in dual bank robberies arrested

Through the combined efforts of Local, State and Federal law enforcement agencies from the surrounding areas, Donald Eugene Hawkins, Jr. was arrested Friday, Oct. 8 at approximately 3:30 a.m., in a remote location of Conroe.

hawkins Conroe Police Department officials advised that at approximately 3:30 a.m., Hawkins was stopped by a patrol officer for driving recklessly. A subsequent warrant check revealed two outstanding robbery warrants, one initiated by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the other from the Tomball Police Department.  At the time of arrest, Hawkins was driving a maroon 2007 Chrysler Aspen SUV, which had been stolen from Texan Truck Sales of Tomball on Oct. 5, and he was taken into custody without incident.

The photographs captured by bank security cameras and the timely distribution of photos via the internet, distribution by police personnel, and the publishing of them in local papers, was instrumental in ensuring that critical leads were established early in the investigation.

These leads led to the recovery of evidence, the identification of the suspect, and the issuance of arrest warrants, for Aggravated Robbery by District Courts in Montgomery and Harris County, within days of the bank robberies in Montgomery County and the City of Tomball.
