| Magnolia area races mostly unopposed |
|
With Election Day fast approaching, voters will no doubt notice that many positions in Montgomery County were already decided in the March primaries. Few local candidates are being contested in the Nov. 2 election.
Among the few county races that are being contested are for State Representative Dist. 15 and County Judge. In the March primaries, Republican Rob Eissler beat Rob Thomas by a land slide, with close to 71 percent of the votes going to Eissler.
Eissler now is facing Libertarian Samuel Calkin for to retain his seat.
Also in March, Republicans Alan B. Sadler and Richard Hickey vied for the party’s candidacy for the County Judge seat. Sadler won with 70 percent of the votes and is now up against Independent Adrian David Heath.
Many of those on this year’s Nov. 2 ballot ran unopposed in March and are doing so again.
284th District Judge Cara Wood was unopposed in March and remains so in November, as will 359th District Judge, Republican Kathleen A. Hamilton.
Craig Doyal will remain unopposed for County Commissioner of Pct. 2, as will Matt Masden for the Justice of the Peace Pct. 5.
Doyal and Masden were also unopposed in 2006 elections, according to Montgomery County election reports.
Polling locations in Magnolia are the Malcolm Purvis Library, Magnolia High School, Montgomery County Community Development Center, J. L. Lyon Elementary School and Smith Elementary School.
