Congressional, state seats highlight local ballot

While the eyes of Texas will be focused primarily on the governor’s race between Rick Perry and Bill White this Election Day, a few items on this year’s ballot will have a Tomball area flavor, the most significant of which features a race for a U.S. Congressional seat.

Michael McCaul (Rep.), who has served as the U.S. House representative for District 130 for the past six years and is seeking his fourth consecutive term his running against Democrat Ted Ankrum in Ankrum’s first foray into political office.

Also running for the position is Libertarian Jeremiah “J.P.” Perkins. McCual garnered 92 percent of the vote in the March primary, while Ankrum ran unopposed.

Sen. Dan Patrick (R-7) is seeking his second term on the State Senate. He is being opposed by Libertarian Lee Coughran.

State Rep. Allen Fletcher (R-130), who two years ago won his first bid for public office, is also being contested by a Libertarian, Joe Spencer.

What is expected to be a more contested race is that for State Rep. for District 150, where Republican Debbie Riddle is the lone state elected official representing the Tomball area to be opposed by a Democrat, Brad Neal.

Making the District 150 race a three-person contest is Libertarian Eric M. Holt.

After a five-year absence on a ballot, Tomball ISD will be holding a contested election. Three candidates, Michael Pratt, David Zuhlke and William Harris are battling for the Position 1 seat on the Tomball ISD Board of Trustees.

Running unopposed are Kathy Handler (Position 1), John McStravick (Position 3) and Mark Lewandowski (Position 4).
