| Magnolia woman dies in Conroe accident |
|
According to a press release from the Conroe Police Department (CPD), Manke and passenger Thomas Weeks, 21, were traveling south in the 900 block of Frazier Street in a blue Ford Windstar van. Also traveling south in the next lane was Roland Reed, 54, driving a black Chevrolet Camaro.
Both the van and Camaro proceeded through the intersection of Frazier and Gladstell at a green light. Abisai Garcia Ramirez, 21, was traveling west on Gladstell in a maroon Chevrolet Lumina when police say he disregarded the red light and struck the Ford van driven by Manke. The Lumina struck the van directly in the driver’s door. The impact forced both southbound vehicles to leave the roadway. The Ford van came to a rest after striking a telephone pole. The Camaro came to rest in a large shrub. The Lumina stopped behind the Ford van.

Also in the Lumina was passenger Rebecca Castilow, 18, who was uninjured and, witnesses told CPD, left the vehicle to discard a small plastic bag at a nearby convenience store trashcan.
Conroe Police Department and Community Oriented Response Team (CORT) responded to the accident, along with Justice of the Peace Pct 2 Trey Spikes. Spikes pronounced Manke dead and ordered an autopsy.
Assistant to the District Attorney and also part of the Vehicular Crime Unit Lee Romero said a blood specimen from Ramirez indicated that his blood alcohol content was approximately 0.19 which is more than double the legal limit of 0.08.
Weeks was transported to Conroe Regional Medical Center (CRMC) to be treated and has been released.
The Camaro was seen allegedly trying to leave the scene but was stopped by arriving officers. Reed was then transported to CRMC for treatment and was later released.
“Reed has not yet been charged, but there is a possibility of charges at a later date,” Romero said. “Charges could include a DWI, because evidence concluded he may have been intoxicated, and failure to stop and render aid.”
Romero said because witnesses saw Castilow throwing an item in the trash, police were able to recover the item which turned out to be drugs. She was taken to Montgomery County Jail and has been charged with tampering with evidence and possession of drugs.
Ramirez suffered injuries to his hip and was transported to CRMC. Romero said that Ramirez was arrested at the hospital on warrant. He has been charged with intoxicated manslaughter. He remains in the Montgomery County Jail with a $500,000 bond.
Ramirez has no prior convictions. Romero said that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) may become involved.
“I am not sure if ICE has a hold at the present time, but I imagine they will,” Romero said.
The Vehicular Crime Unit is still investigating the accident. Romero has subpoenaed the hospital for Ramirez’s blood for testing and is in the process of contacting Weeks for further information.
“I have learned through lawyers that Manke was a mother of five,” Romero said. “That information made my heart drop.”

This scum needs to have a meeting with his maker and it should happen after he spends the rest of his miserable life doing hard time. In my opinion, this is murder and until we make the punishment fit the crime, we will continue to lose our loved ones.

Mariah is a mother of 4 beautiful children and will always be. She was a single mom striving hard to love and care for each one of them. She has 2 beautiful young daughters filled with life and an extreme amount of love for others. Her 2 boys are as handsome as could ever be with more will and strength than anyone can ever imagine. Mariah is my best friend, she is my sister, and I will always love her. I finally see your face, I hope you seen hers and saw the beauty and greatness you stole from this would and her family. NO, this should not have happened. All we can do now is ask for peace and understanding and justice!

I am the sister of Mariah Manke and I would like to make it known that she was the mother of FOUR ages 9, 8, 7, and 6. She was an amazing person and I very much hope that justice be brought down harshly on those involved with her death. She resided in Conroe, TX, not trailer trash Magnolia. SHE was a law-abiding citizen who's main concern in life was her children. May you rest in peace, my beautiful, beloved sister, Mariah.

This should not have happened, just as the many others that have been killed by illegals in our country. This is a problem that really angers me, but our elected officials look at illegals as future votes. When are we, as a collective group of society, going to vote these self centered politicans out of office? If our government cared about what is happening to our fellow American citizens they would do something about this very real and dangerous problem of illegal people in our country. I think it is painfully clear that politicans don't care about legal law abiding citizens. Their actions toward this problem prove it everyday. Look at Tomball, their elected officials want to fund a place for illegals to gather. That is an invitation to illegals being paid by tax payer money when the tax payers are clearly against it.
I am very sorry for the loss of your sister. May God Bless your family. Write comment
