| Beckendorf statue unveiling delayed |
|
The unveiling of the Elmer Beckendorf statue at the Tomball Depot, originally scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 11, has been delayed indefinitely. According to Tomball Mayor Gretchen Fagan, Doug Van Zandt, husband of artist Sandra Van Zandt, notified the city that “there were issues with the foundry and he decided to move the piece to another location for completion.” “Sandra Van Zandt has an excellent reputation and has always delivered the highest quality so we are comfortable with the decision,” Fagan said. “He (Doug Van Zandt) was uncomfortable with the quality of work that may be delivered if it were rushed.” The Beckendorf statue was to be revealed in conjunction with the city’s Second Saturday at the Depot and German Christmas Market. Fagan now estimates that the statue will be delivered and unveiled after Christmas.
