Tomball election date set, two council spots up for grabs

The date for this year’s Tomball City Council election is set with two council members up for re-election.

At its Jan. 17 meeting, the council set May 14 as the date for the election which will feature the incumbents for two positions seeking new three-year terms. Position 1 is currently held by David Quinn. He was first elected to office in 2005 and has served as the city’s mayor pro-tem for the past two years.

Quinn did not return messages the Tribune as of press time last week regarding if he would seek a third term on council.

Position 5 incumbent Preston Dodson will be hoping to hold on to the seat he won in August in a special election. Dodson defeated Judy Wilson in a race to replace Warren Driver for Position 5. Driver resigned from the council in June 2010 because he and his wife decided to move out of Tomball.

Council members must live in the city limits to serve.

A requirement for running in the August special election was that the winner also run in this year’s general election.

The first day that those interested in running for city council can file for a place on the ballot is Feb. 12. The deadline is March 14.

Ballot applications are available at Tomball City Hall, located at 401 Market St. City office hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m.
