| Grandmother arrested for leaving child outside in icy temps |
|
Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a Magnolia woman who allegedly left her 4-year-old granddaughter outside in icy temperatures for nearly half an hour earlier this month. According to the Sheriff’s Office, on Feb. 11 a resident living in the 28000 block of Hidden Cove in Magnolia called police claiming a young girl had been standing outside of her home for approximately 30 months near a busy roadway. Sheriff’s Office Dep. Suarez responded to the scene, but just before his arrival the resident of the home had taken the child and left the scene. Lt. David Park said Suarez located the suspected vehicle a short time later and conducted a traffic stop. A report issued by the Sheriff’s Office stated that the driver, a 44-year-old female, was the child’s grandmother. Suarez reported that the woman had “slurred speech and failed to understand or carry out” any of his orders. The child told Suarez that she had been locked outside “because she had drank all the milk” at her home. Park said the grandmother told Suarez she had fallen asleep when the child had gone outside. Weather reports from Feb. 11 show that the low temperature was 26 degree and the high was 56 degrees. The woman was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated with a child passenger, a felony and felony injury to a child/neglect. She also had an active warrant for her arrest for felony robbery. The child did not suffer any injuries and was released to Child Protective Services, Park said.
