City prepares for Downtown planning meetings

Tomball is busy preparing for its keystone Downtown Specific Plan (DSP) event, a multi-day Design Charrette. In early 2011, the City kicked off the DSP effort to guide future development and redevelopment of downtown. The DSP will translate long-range planning into regulatory policy, including providing specific zoning and design standards for downtown. Design Charrette events held on April 9 and 11 will allow residents and stakeholders the opportunity to “roll up their sleeves” and provide input on downtown design concepts and features.

The complete line-up of Design Charrette events include:

Saturday, April 9

3 – 4:30 p.m.:  Public Design Workshop, Community Center

Join city planners at the first public workshop focused on downtown character areas and design elements. Participants will provide feedback on design components, architectural themes, streetscape and land uses in downtown.

5 p.m. – Dusk: 2nd Saturday at the Depot, Depot Plaza

Come out to 2nd Saturday’s showing of Dr. Dolittle. The project team will be on-site, ready to take  feedback on downtown design elements while the public enjoys the movie and festivities.

Monday, April 11

11 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Design Studio, Community Center

Stop by anytime and work with the planning team on design concepts for downtown Tomball.

“This is an important series of public events for the Downtown Specific Plan,” Assistant City Planner Rodney Schmidt said. “Through these activities, we’ll gather feedback that will help define the vision for downtown’s future.”

Future DSP events are scheduled for July and September with Council’s adoption of the DSP anticipated by year’s end.
