3 drop out of Tomball council race

Just one week after the Tomball City Council election ballot was set with eight candidates vying for two positions, that number has been reduced to five after three potential candidates have dropped out of the race.

Last week Position 1 candidates Angela Hunter and William “Bill” O’Neal and Position 5 candidate Robert Burke submitted paperwork to City Secretary Doris Speer to withdraw from the race.

That leaves a three-person race for the Position 1 seat being vacated by David Quinn, who chose not to seek re-election. Those candidates are Judy Wilson, William Harris and Field Hudgens.

In the race for Position 1 are incumbent Preston Dodson and Bill Webb.

Hunter said that she opted to withdraw from the race to aid her ailing father who lives in Louisiana.

Burke refused to comment on his reasons for quitting the race.

O’Neal did not return messages to the Tribune regarding his decision to withdraw.

This year’s General Election is scheduled for May 14. For more information about the election, including candidate filings, visit tomballtx.com.
