| Magnolia to celebrate history, heritage at Depot Day |
|
Living history, period characters, kids’ games, food, crafts and more - such as a real blacksmith’s shop with demonstrations by the Houston Area Blacksmith’s Association are all at Depot Day.
This year, along with a visit to the 1902 depot museum, store and caboose, visitors at Depot Day can take in the antique tractor display along with a classic car show. There’s even an original Magnolia area sawmill on display.
The office of Dr. J.M. Ware, the first doctor in Magnolia, will also be open. The office (circa 1890s) is a recent addition to the Depot Plaza and houses instruments used by Ware in his practice.
Depot Day barbecue prepared by Johnny Rollins is back and sandwiches along with chips, drinks and snacks will be available throughout the day with full briskets for sale in the afternoon.
Country Jim and the All Stars featuring Wayne "Animal" Turner, who played with Hank Williams Jr. for two decades, will get Depot Day rolling at 9:30 a.m. under the pavilion and the Charlie Riley Band will pick up at 2 p.m. A live auction will get underway at 1 p.m. and the Depot Day silent auction will be in the adjacent Community Building.
Along with inflatables and a rock climbing wall, kids and grown-ups alike can learn how to milk a cow at Depot Day. This new interactive exhibit offers a true hands-on experience from the past and a lesson on food origins.
