Boys and Girls Country preparing for Spring Festival

spring festival Families are invited to spend the day at the 35th annual Boys and Girls Country of Houston Spring Festival on April 30 at the Hockley campus from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

The festival will have all-day activities for children, which will include pony rides, a petting zoo, inflatable rock climbing wall, a super slide, a mechanical bull and booths for children to make crafts. Parents may purchase passes for the activities for $15, individual activity tickets start at 25 cents.

In addition, guests can participate in a live auction at 1:15 p.m., a silent auction set to end at 3 p.m., a board auction and raffle tickets will also be sold.

 

A trip to Disney World, a 37-inch TV and an iPad are a few or the prizes included in the raffle.

 

The festival will have two stages of entertainment. Tribute artist Kenny Holiday will perform, as well as Opera to Go by the Houston Grand Opera.

 

Barbecue, chicken sandwiches, hamburgers and hot dog lunches will be available for $6 a plate. Funnel cakes and nachos will also be sold.

 

All proceeds from the event are used for the daily operations of the Boys and Girls Country, Director of Spring Festival and Community Relations George O’Neal explained.

 

“The proceeds provide a home for the kids and helps to meet the daily needs of the children,” he added.

 

Boys and Girls Country has provided a home to children from families in crisis for 40 years. Currently, it houses 88 children in the main campus and supports 78 young adults in college or career programs.

 

“This year, we are celebrating our 40th anniversary and it is going to be the biggest and best Spring Festival yet,” Director of Development Elaine Petranek said.
