Tomball area house fire claims two lives

fire An April 2 house fire in the Canyon Gate subdivision in south Tomball claimed two lives and, at press time last week, investigators still had not determined the cause of the blaze.

According to the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office (HCFMO), firefighters responded to an emergency call in the 19600 block of Sasquatch in the Canyon Gate subdivision. Emergency crews were faced with a large fire that had quickly consumed a single-story residence.

The Klein Fire Department and fire crews from Tomball, Cypress Creek and Cy-Fair battled the fire.

After the fire was mostly extinguished, firefighters discovered the remains of two bodies, later identified as two females. Nearly a week after the fire, investigators had not determined the cause and the identities of the victims had not been released.

According Muriel Flores of the HCFMO, the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences had yet to determine a cause of the death for the two victims.

Klein Fire Department Chief David Bessolo said last week that the two victims were sisters, ages 54 and 58.

HCFMO Investigators said last week that they were nearing a determination as to the cause of the fire.

“We are in the early stages of the investigation. As yet, we do not know exactly where or how the fire started,” Investigator Dan Shelor said. “Witnesses said the house was occupied by two adult females, but it’s unclear if these are the two victims.”
