| Magnolia Youth Livestock Show gives exhibitors second chance |

Each year, following the Montgomery County Fair, exhibitors who did not make the sale may register to participate in MYLS for a second chance to sell their projects.
This marks the seventh year that MYLS has held an event for animal exhibitors who did not make sale at the fair.

Vice President Paul Artmann said MYLS provides exhibitors with the opportunity to try to sell their animal projects and recoup the money that went into the project. If they did not have a second chance to sell their animal projects then the exhibitors most likely would not be able to afford an animal the next year.
“The show allows them to participate again next year,” he said.
Second Vice President Lisa Bodway said MYLS aims to keep the exhibitors involved in FFA and 4-H.
Not only do the exhibitors get a chance to re-show their animal, but they also have the chance to earn the Grand Champion belt buckle, Artmann added.
According to Secretary Lauren Twining, 70 exhibitors have registered for the show, which is the most the show has had.
All of the animals combined sell at the auction for between $30,000 and $40,000 each year, Twining explained. The exhibitors receive 90 percent of the auction amount and MYLS receives the remaining amount.
In addition, the organization earns money through the sell of show books or information guides and advertisements in the show books. Last year MYLS earned about $6,000 from the show book sales, according to Artmann.
MYLS, which is operated by volunteers, uses the earnings to operate the livestock show and offer scholarships. To date, the organization has provided $35,000 in scholarships.
Last year the organization established the Sweetheart Division which is made up of exhibitors who have sold the most show books each year.
Exhibitors will check in at 8 a.m. the day of the show with their animal projects, which include poultry, rabbits, lambs, goats, barrows and heifers. Animal judging will be held between 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. A buyer’s dinner will be from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by the live auction.
Prior to the livestock show and throughout the event, exhibitors will be selling raffle tickets for a chance to win prizes such as prime beef, a trip to Marina Village, a cooler, purse or a gift card to Chili’s. The raffle drawing will follow the auction.
The livestock show is open to the public at no cost. For more information, visit magnoliayouthlivestockshow.com.
