Tomball council race nears conclusion with Election Day

The City of Tomball will hold its hotly-contested City Council election Saturday, May 14 with balloting being held at City Hall, 401 Market St.

Two seats on the council are up for election this year. Position 1 is an open race between first-time city council candidate and local attorney Field Hudgens, local small business owner and two-time candidate Judy Wilson and William Harris, who works in private security and last year made an unsuccessful bid for the Tomball ISD Board of Trustees.

Current Position 1 incumbent and mayor pro-tem David Quinn chose not to seek re-election this year after having served two terms on the city council.

In the race for Position 5, incumbent and local attorney Preston Dodson is facing a challenge from former council member and mayor Bill Webb.

Dodson was elected to Position 5 in August 2010 after former council member Warren Driver vacated his position to move out of the city. Dodson won a special election that summer, defeating Wilson.

Webb, meanwhile, is looking to win a spot back onto council after being defeated in his re-election bid for Position 3 in 2010 by Rick Brown.

Each council position carries a three-year term.

Early voting for current registered City of Tomball voters will be held two more days this week, on Monday, May 9 from 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Tuesday, May 10 from 7:45 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. All polling will be held at City Hall.

Voting booths on Election Day will also be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
