Tomball Police have arrested a Magnolia man accused of raping a 4-year-old girl and infecting her with herpes.

According to the Tomball PD, Erik Medrano, 23, of Magnolia was arrested May 4 and charged with Super Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, a first degree felony. At press time last week, Medrano was being held on a $100,000 bond.

If convicted, Medrano is facing a minimum of 25 years in prison and a maximum of life.

According to a Harris County District Attorney’s Office complaint report, Medrano raped the victim, reported to be his girlfriend’s daughter, at the Super 8 motel located on Keefer Street in Tomball on or about Feb. 25, 2011. Medrano had been registered at the motel between February 25 and April 9.

The alleged victim told investigators that the sexual assault occurred in a room with a bed near the motel’s swimming pool. Shortly after the alleged assault, the victim made an outcry to her grandmother, who lives in Montgomery County. The grandmother then contacted the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office where Det. Tom Ganucci was assigned to the case.

Through his investigation, Ganucci discovered that the alleged assault had been committed in Tomball. The investigation was then turned over to Det. Albert Chambers of the Tomball PD.

In an interview with investigators, Medrano admitted having spent time alone with his girlfriend’s daughter, but denied having raped the child and claimed he did not have herpes. However, according to the complaint, Medrano was subjected to a blood test and tested positive for herpes.

According to Capt. Ricky Doerre of the Tomball PD, authorities are investigating the possibility that Medrano may have sexually assaulted more than one child. The complaint states that the alleged victim and her younger sister visited their mother, who was staying with Medrano at the motel, while he was registered there.

Medrano has a criminal history dating to April 2008, when he was convicted of aggravated assault.
