Waller voters keep Frey, Arnold, bring back Hajek

Waller residents cast their final votes on May 14 giving the three city council positions at large to Roger Frey, Nancy Arnold and former 2004 council member Dwayne Hajek.

Early voting showed Sidney Johnson as a top vote getter with 51 of the total 222 votes. Hajek led with 58 of the early votes. However, Johnson’s total dropped on Election Day, having only 24 of the 169 votes.

Frey, Arnold and Hajek stayed consistent throughout the election having a comparable number of votes in early voting and on Election Day.

Overall, 391 votes were cast. Hajek received 104 votes, Arnold received 84 and Frey received 80, making them the top three vote getters and becoming members on the city council.

Johnson received 75 votes. Also in the running was Kevin Wood who received 48 votes.

Each position carries a two-year term.

Arnold will begin her third term on the Waller City Council. Hajek served as a council member in 2004 and mayor from 2006 to 2008. Frey has served on the Waller City Council for 20 years.

Waller ISD also held an election for Positions 1 and 2. J.E. Johnson, Joe Landin and Ann Kulhanek were seeking Position 1 previously held by David Kirkpatrick. Landin came out on top with 130 of the 374 votes.

Landin is a lifelong resident of Waller. He has served on the Waller Economic Development Corporation since 2008.

Position 2 will continue to be held by Shaun Nelson who ran unopposed. Nelson has been a board member since 2001, according to WISD Public Relations Director Marianne Kosik.

The school board trustees serve three-year terms.
