Tomball fire burns 50 acres

On Saturday, May 28 at approximately 4:15 p.m., the Tomball Fire Department, Northwest EMS and the Tomball Police Department responded to a field fire in the 13000 block of Holderrieth, which is located on the south side of Tomball.

Investigators determined that the fire was ignited by sparks from electrical equipment on a telephone pole. The telephone pole was located in the 13000 block of Holderrieth, just west of South Cherry Street.

According to the City of Tomball, winds from the south caused the fire to spread north and burn approximately 50 acres. The fire threatened one house; however, fire fighters took a defensive stance and were able to protect the house as the fire continued to move north.

The city said the fire has since been knocked down and is contained. Fire department members will remain on the scene for several hours until the scene is deemed safe.

The fire was a 4-alarm fire which required more than 75 fire department personnel including: Tomball, Rosehill, Cy-Fair, Cypress Creek, Magnolia, Klein, Ponderosa, Spring, Northwest Fire, Northwest EMS and the Texas Forestry Service.  Over 35 fire department apparatus were on the scene.
