Magnolia Tailgate Party kicks off on the Stroll

tailgate party The City of Magnolia and the Magnolia Community Foundation are hosting a Tailgate Party on the Stroll Aug. 13 to kick-off the new school year and celebrate the Mustangs, Bulldogs and Bears upcoming football season.

The Stroll is expected to be ornamented with a dunking booth, live entertainment, food vendors and uniformed football players, cheerleaders and drill teams.

“This is an opportunity for all sports fans to meet local high school athletes, hear school bands and show their spirit,” according to a press release from the City of Magnolia.

Pictured are the Magnolia West High School Mustangs who will make an appearance on the Stroll at the “Yellow House.”

Bulldogs will be stationed at Sullivan Park and the Mustangs will be stationed at the “Yellow House.” The dunking booth will be in between the two teams along the stroll. Principals and coaches will be among the prospects to be dunked.

Proceeds from the dunking booth will go to the Magnolia ISD activity fund.

Magnolia Community Foundation President Deborah Rose Miller said the stroll will host about 30 vendors, including Rotary, Booster Clubs, T-shirt companies, local restaurants and informational booths.

The Magnolia Rotary Club will be promoting their annual Spaghetti Bowl Fundraiser. The club holds a fundraising spaghetti dinner at the Magnolia High School (MHS) and Magnolia West High School (MWHS) football game. The Rotary Club held a contest for the design of a shirt between the two high schools, and winners from MHS and MWHS were chosen, with only one design being printed.

The Magnolia Police Department (MPD) will also kick-off the anti-distracted driving campaign. MPD will offer videos and presentations about anti-texting while driving. MPD will also offer pledge cards to young drivers in hopes that they will sign them committing not to text and drive. The department will give wrist bands, thumb bands and T-shirts as reminders to not text and drive.

Blue Iguana, Papa John’s Pizza and Mo-Co’s Grill are among the food vendors expected to be present.

Mo-Co’s Grill, located in the “Yellow House,” is expected to hold their grand opening the weekend of the Tailgate Party on the Stroll, according to Miller. She said a VIP Reception will be held at the “Yellow House” for local and prospective businesses.

Miller said the event is student focused. Students are encouraged to wear their school-related activity uniform and all other guests are encouraged to wear their favorite team’s colors.

The event will be from 5 to 9 p.m.
