|
The event will begin in the Malcolm Purvis Library parking lot at 1:30 p.m. where the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department Honor Guard (pictured) will present the colors. MHS will continue with its ceremony at 2 p.m. MHS 9/11 chair Katrina Welch said several guest speakers are scheduled to reflect on 9/11, coping and the future. State Representative Rob Eissler, Magnolia Police Chief, MVFD Assistant Fire Chief, members of Magnolia ISD and local pastors will be among the guest speakers. The Silver Statesmen Quartet will provide music. "This memorial is a tribute to not only lives lost, but to remember those who gave their lives to help their fellow man," Welch said. "People prayed for one another, people showed random acts of kindness. And, here were are 10 years later still helping each other heal and remembering those individuals and families who gave all." The event will end will a bagpiper and the final bell in memory of those who lost and gave their lives. This is the second year that MHS has hosted a 9/11 memorial, according to Welch. The society aims to keep with its tradition of honoring veterans and recognizing solemnizing and unique American occasions. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served after the ceremony.
