Texas Bankers Association sets up fire relief fund to benefit Texas Red Cross chapters and volunteer firefighters

red cross As wildfires continue their path of destruction throughout Texas, the Texas Bankers Association (TBA) has set up a Texas Bankers Fire Relief Fund with donations received from Texas banks and bankers. The fund will benefit the Texas chapters of the American Red Cross in communities affected by the wildfires and the Texas Wildfire Relief Fund.

The Texas chapters of the American Red Cross are assisting victims of the Texas wildfires with their immediate needs, including shelter centers, food, temporary housing, toiletries, medication, eye glasses and home cleanup kits. The Texas Wildfire Relief Fund supports Texas volunteer fire departments. The fund will provide firefighters with equipment, water, food and fuel necessary to continue battling wildfires.

“Texas banks are the pillars of their communities,” said TBA Chairman Jim Goudge, chairman of the board and CEO of San Antonio-based Broadway Bank. “We’re here to help our customers through their milestones as well as their hardships. Many of our banks have been affected directly by these fires: employees, friends, family members and bank customers have been hit hard. We hope our donations can begin to heal the wounds of these destructive fires.”

TBA has kicked off the fund with a $1,000 donation. Employees of TBA have contributed an additional $1,500. Texas banks have been encouraged to each donate $1,000 as well.
