| ‘Stroll through the Renaissance Festival’ set for Oct. 1 in Magnolia |
|
The Texas Renaissance Festival (TRF) partnered with the City of Magnolia, naming it the official host city in April, in an effort to help promote the city to festival visitors. However, prior to the opening of TRF on Oct. 8, Magnolia will host its Stroll event which invites guests to see a preview of what the 37th Annual Texas Renaissance Festival has to offer. The Stroll event set for Oct. 1 from 4 to 8 p.m. will bring many of the similar events guests would normally see at the TRF. The King and Queen will be on the Stroll along with a variety of TRF shops showcasing artwork. Performers will provide impromptu show and demonstrations from the Renaissance period such as jewelry making, hair braiding and metal works. Guests will also enjoy a variety of festival food items from the King’s Feast, the Queen’s Pantry, turkey legs, kettle corn and more. The event will feature eating contests, games, face painting, juggling and a Renaissance-themed costume contest for children 12 and under. The King and Queen will also be joined by Mayor Todd Kana. In honor of the new partnership between the TRF and the City of Magnolia, Kana will present the King with a proclamation and a key to the city in Sullivan Park at 6 p.m. In return, the King will bestow a special knighthood upon the mayor. The TRF is the nation’s largest Renaissance theme park. TRF welcomes more than 450,000 visitors annually. The festival usually has about 40,000 to 50,000 people camp on the festival grounds each year. In spite of recent wildfires, the TRF will continue with its normal schedule and open its gates Oct. 8. TRF is open for eight weekends beginning Oct. 8 and ending Nov. 27. However, due to the extreme drought the Royal Fireworks display which is the grand finale of each night of the Renaissance, has been canceled. Instead, the park will hold Queen Titania’s Magical Light Show. The TRF has also stated that no open flames or smoking will be allowed in the parking lot and any bonfires, fireworks, pits or heating devices will not be allowed on the campgrounds. Admission and parking to the event on the Stroll is free. For more information about the upcoming Stroll event, visit cityofmagnolia.com. For more information about the TRF, visit texrenfest.com.
