| McDonald’s robber sentenced to 32 years |
|
On April 17 at 1:30 p.m. the Magnolia Police Department (MPD) was dispatched to a robbery in progress at the McDonald’s located at the intersection of FM 1488 and FM 1774. As the officers arrived in the area they noticed a white pickup that had just left the scene traveling east, several blocks away. A police pursuit ensued, reaching speeds of 60 to 65 mph, traveling west on FM 1488 toward Waller County. A 21-year-old white male was taken into custody by MPD just inside Waller County. The original scene was investigated by MPD along with the Montgomery County Crime Scene Unit and detectives. It was found that the white male entered the family oriented busy restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. As family and friends ate, the white male entered the building with a loaded semi-automatic handgun and pointed it to the chest of two separate employees. The male demanded each employee remove the cash from the cash register. The male then exited the restaurant, entering his vehicle and leaving the scene. The male failed to stop his vehicle as officers followed his evading vehicle with emergency lights and sirens activated. He was taken into custody and has been held at the Montgomery County Jail awaiting trial. On Sept.19-20 Det. Clack and Officer Diaz along with several Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputies testified in a sentencing hearing held at the Montgomery County Courts. After 16 hours the jury charged Stephen Roth of Hockley with two counts of Aggravated Robbery and one count of Felony Evading with a Vehicle. Roth received 15 years for each robbery and 2 years for evading, totaling 32 years in the Texas State Penitentiary.
