|
A one-vehicle accident at the intersection of Longneck Drive and North Lite Street claimed the life of a Magnolia man and sent another to the hospital. DPS Troopers and the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD) responded to a one-vehicle accident near the Turtle Creek subdivision at 1:50 a.m. on Oct. 1. MVFD found the driver, 25-year-old Ragelio Barron-Rico and the passenger, 38-year-old Alvaro Delepaz, both of Magnolia trapped in a 1996 Chevrolet pick-up. According to the Houston DPS communications operators, Rico was traveling westbound on Longneck Drive at an unsafe speed. The posted speed limit was 30 miles per hour. Rico attempted to turn right on to North Lite Street when he lost control of his vehicle and collided with a tree. MVFD had to remove both Rico and Delepaz from the pick-up. At 3 a.m. Justice of the Peace Pct. 5 Matt Masden pronounced Rico dead at the scene. Delepaz was life flighted to Memorial Herman in Houston, according to operators. Masden ordered an autopsy for Rico. Operators said Delepaz was suffering from incapacitating conditions and blunt trauma. He was reported to be in critical condition. DPS Troopers indicated that neither person was wearing a seat belt. DPS said pending further investigation, it was unsure if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident.
