| Clack in the running for Pct. 5 Constable |
|
Prior to working for MPD, Clack worked in his family’s sheet metal business. He had always wanted to become a police officer immediately following high school; however, his dreams were put on hold after a horrific accident that almost claimed his life. He then followed his second ambition, photography, and accepted an opportunity to work and learn with Ron West of Ron West Photography. Clack says he developed strong public relations skills here. Clack opened his own business, Texas Studios, where he continued photography, sales and event planning. Following this, Clack said he still had this “nagging” desire to be in law enforcement and give back to the community where he had lived most of his life. With the support of his wife and two sons, he went to the police academy. Clack has been working with MPD since 2006. He began as a reserve officer and was promoted to full time. He said he completed tasks and closed investigations and soon gained the title of detective for MPD. He served as crime scene investigator and the contact person for criminal cases to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office. His official rank is Sergeant of Patrol. He assists in scheduling, organizing and training officers and performs civil duties such as bailiff to the municipal court. Clack said his new calling is to become Pct. 5 Constable. He said he has worked in the City of Magnolia and he feels limited on what he can do for his community, while working solely in the city limits. Clack wants to be Pct. 5 Constable so he can use the Constable’s Office to be a more proactive policing department. He said although the department is established as a civil service department, deputies are allowed to be proactive police officers. He also wants to get bullying and drugs out of schools. Clack said he wants to create a safer environment in and around school campuses. According to Clack, MISD schools have done away with the D.A.R.E. program. He wants to teach students about the effects and dangers of drugs and hold them accountable if they bring drugs to school. He also expressed concern about politics in the Constable’s Office. He said the department operates on the “good ole boy” system. “That’s not what the law enforcement system needs,” he said. “It’s between right and wrong.” Clack’s other goals if elected to Pct. 5 Constable include, getting the community more involved, establishing a coalition between agencies in the area, holding criminals accountable and investigating and following up on crimes. Clack will run against Johnny Carroll and current Constable David Hill. Hill has not been opposed since 1996. For more information about Clack, visit vote4Clack.com.
