Cagle announces bid for Commissioner

jack cagle Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Jack Cagle announced a bid for election to a seat he was appointed to in October by Harris County Judge Ed Emmett. Cagle was appointed following the resignation of former commissioner Jerry Eversole, due to a plea agreement Eversole made with federal prosecutors, following a corruption probe.

Cagle said that in his few months on the job he has grown to love the position and feels he can serve residents with distinction and honor. Cagle is a former Harris County civil court judge.

“I love serving the people of Harris County Precinct 4 and hope to continue serving them for a very long time,” Cagle said. “Precinct 4 has (more than) 3,300 miles of roads, 33 county parks and 311 employees who have invested years and tremendous talent to improve our community. As a judge for (more than) ten years, I resolved issues dealing with the past − as a county commissioner I am a builder for the future.”

Cagle also mentioned that providing a friendly business environment was key to continued growth in Harris County, as evidenced by the recent announcement that ExxonMobil was building a huge corporate campus within the boundaries of Precinct 4.

“The arrival of such a high quality facility as ExxonMobil to Precinct 4 will attract other businesses and services to support the new operation and its estimated 35,000 employee families,” Cagle said. “This includes retail businesses, health care, educational facilities and other professionals. I want to be the commissioner who builds communities and works with other county officials to improve everyone’s quality of life.”

Cagle said that will be a challenge, but contends he is up to it.

“The challenge will be to provide good, safe business and family friendly communities with tight taxpayer dollars,” he said. “My promise to my neighbors will be to closely examine the county budget, live within that budget and continue to provide services to Precinct 4.”

The Republican primary will be March 6, 2012. So far, Cagle does not have an announced opponent in the primary.
