Council transfers land to TEDC for future industrial park

Several items were on the agenda for the final Tomball City Council meting of 2011, Dec. 19. Among the items was an approval to turn over nearly 100 acres of land to the Tomball Economic Development Board as a site for a future industrial park.

The land, located at the northwest corner of Hufsmith-Kohrville and Holderrieth roads, was transferred to the TEDC, in the hopes that an industrial park can attract more businesses to the area.

The TEDC will now take incremental steps in engineering the project and hopes to have the first phase completed within 18-24 months.

“We are getting proposals in regards to all of the engineering that needs to be done before developing,” TEDC executive director Kelly Violette said. “We are probably looking at about two years before we are ready to start selling lots.”

Violette said there have already been inquiries from businesses about possibly locating to the planned industrial park.

“We have had a lot of interest in the park already,” she said.

Next up for council were several zoning requests, all of which were approved.

Council then approved a bid to expand West Hufsmith Road to Brown-Hufsmith Road to Monarch Civil Contractors for just under $1 million. Monarch also won the bid to provide an extension of city utilities along Brown Road west of SH 249.

The final business for council was to approve an amendment to the contract with AOT Public Safety Corporation, who provides false alarm billing and tracking services. The initial start date for the system was pushed back due to software problems and issues that had to be fixed. The amendment pushes the start date of the original three-year contract back to the day the program actually rolled out.

Council members Mark Stoll, Rick Brown and Derek Townsend voted to approve the amendment, while Councilman Field Hudgens voted against it.
