| Tomball planning for next road expansion |
|
With the extension of Brown Road not even a year old, the City of Tomball is already looking forward to bringing the thoroughfare even further east in order to ease traffic congestion in the city.
At a recent meeting, the Tomball City Council approved a $200,000 expenditure to CLR Inc. for a design and surveying study for a proposed plan that would bring Brown Road east from it’s current intersection at Baker Road to Hufsmith Road. City Manager Jan Belcher said the proposed road is in “response to the citizens’ concern regarding mobility.” Belcher added that the city’s master thoroughfare plan calls for the extension of Brown Road “to provide an alternate route for east-west traffic.” “Additional east-west traffic options allow residents greater mobility in Tomball and helps reduce traffic congestion on FM 2920,” she said. The Brown Road extension is in its early stages and is yet to receive funding, or a project timeline. Belcher said the final report by CLR would help the city establish a preliminary project cost estimate. According to a report issued by the city, the Brown Road extension would include a new two-lane concrete roadway, sidewalks, water main, sanitary sewer, gas main, and an open channel drainage outfall along Baker Road south to Boggs Gully. The city completed work on the first extension of Brown Road from SH 249 to Baker Drive last year.
