Crash claims life on FM 1488, sends one to hospital

The Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department responded to a crash on FM 1488 at Mill Creek around 2:30 a.m. Dec. 30, which claimed the life of one and sent another to the hospital.

A truck left the roadway crashing into Mill Creek and catching fire, according to Fire Chief Gary Vincent. The truck impacted the guardrail, went over the embankment and into Mill Creek. Vincent said upon impact the vehicle caught fire. When the vehicle ignited the driver perished in the vehicle, he explained.

The passenger was able to get out of the vehicle. Vincent said when MVFD arrived, a Samaritan was on the scene; however, he had not verified if the Samaritan had been the one to pull the passenger out of the vehicle.

The passenger was sent to the hospital, but Vincent did not know the status of the passenger as of press time last week.

The Texas Department of Public Safety was also on scene. As of press time a report had not been generated, according to the communications department. Names of the driver and passenger were not released as of press time pending notification of family members.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash. Justice of the Peace Pct. 5 Judge Matt Masden ordered the body of the driver be transported for an autopsy.
