Spring man dies, Magnolia man stable after crash at Mill Creek

David Dewayne Taylor, 34, of Spring, was pronounced dead and James Samuel Glosson, 35, of Magnolia, is stable after an early morning crash on Dec. 30.

Taylor was driving his red 1988 GMC pick-up westbound on FM 1488 around 2 a.m., according to a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) spokesperson.

The pick-up struck the right guardrail and drove off of the roadway into Mill Creek, DPS stated. Upon striking the guardrail, a gas leak occurred. When the truck fell into the creek bed, the vehicle ignited.

DPS said that Glosson, the passenger, was pulled from the vehicle prior to it igniting. DPS and the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD) responded to the accident about 2:20 a.m.

Fire Chief Gary Vincent said when MVFD arrived, a Samaritan was on the scene; however, DPS and MVFD had not verified if the Samaritan had been the one to pull the passenger out of the vehicle.

Taylor perished in the vehicle, Vincent said. Justice of the Peace Pct. 5 Judge Matt Masden ordered Taylor to be transported for an autopsy. DPS said he was then transported to Metcalf Funeral Home and next of kin was notified.

Glosson was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital were he was reported to be stable with a broken hip and vertebrae.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash. DPS did not know the cause of the crash as of press time.
