Addison resigns from school board

glenn addison Magnolia ISD (MISD) announced that Glenn Addison resigned from his position on the MISD Board of Trustees Dec. 14. Addison has been campaigning for Senator since February.

In a letter to the school board, Addison stated that with his extensive involvement in his quest to become the next U.S. Senator from Texas, he is finding it difficult to fulfill his role as a trustee while campaigning for office.

Superintendent Dr. Todd Stephens expressed his gratitude saying as a result of Addison’s service, MISD is a far better district today.

Stephens wrote in a letter to Addison, “Your insistence on character and integrity has resulted in a quality work force in our district that daily displays their character and ethics as they teach our students. Your attention and leadership in fiscal areas has produced top quality facilities and instructional tools at a tremendous value to our taxpayers. Your ability to build and foster relationships has allowed us to have trust and confidence in our elected leaders. Your friendship, experience and wisdom as a trustee and board president have helped me grow as a superintendent and leader. Your support of quality instructional programs and teachers has resulted in a recognized district producing top achieving students in all areas. Your vision of creating the best district in Texas right here in MISD has given us a reason for doing just that. Thank you Mr. Addison for your service to MISD and so much more.”

Addison has been on the MISD School Board since 1997.

“I have been profoundly honored to serve this district as a school board member since 1997,” he stated in his resignation letter.

Board President, Cecil Bell Jr. commented that he appreciated Addison’s leadership and service to the district.

“While his service will be missed on the board, we wish him God’s speed in his future endeavors to serve our community and state,” Bell stated.

Superintendent Secretary Chris Hinkelman said the school board is discussing the next steps for the vacant position. He said the board should make a decision at the school board meeting scheduled for Jan. 9 at 6:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, Addison said his campaign is moving along.  He recently traveled to Round Rock and says he will most likely be traveling for the remainder of the campaign.

He said he has been “real encouraged” by the people he meets and cities he has visited along the way.

Currently there are 10 candidates that have filed for the Texas Senator seat.
