“The show is huge for us,” Tomball FFA Booster Club President Kim Schaub said. “Last year we raised over a half million dollars for the program.” Photo: Tomball High School junior Rachel Sembera shows off her prize lamb after a recent FFA show. The 36th annual Tomball FFA Project Show and Sale will be held Jan 27-28 at Tomball High School’s project barn. Officials with the Tomball FFA expect more than 200 students to show animals, with many of them entered into the live auction for sale. Steers, pigs, rabbits, lambds, chickens, turkeys and more will be shown. “Some students have had these projects for several months,” Schaub said. “It brings the Tomball community together with the wonderful businesses that come out each and every year to help us.” Much of the interest in this year’s show will circle around the entries from a brand new school, Tomball Memorial High School (TMHS). Both THS and TMHS students use the agriculture facilities at the new school, primarily because it has space to house the animals whose students can’t them at home. “The new barn (at TMHS) has allowed kids who might have never thought about joining FFA the chance to join and raise an animal,” Schaub said. Leslie Chronister, President of the TMHS FFA Booster Club, says the experience has been wonderful. “This has been an awesome experience for all of us,” Chronister said. “The new barn is amazing and state of the art. We couldn’t have asked for better.” Chronister credits Schaub with helping the new club and program get started and it’s clear the role of FFA is extremely important to Schaub. “Our two booster clubs have worked very closely together since last summer,” Schaub said. “It takes all of us to put on the show.” Schaub, who has a son at THS with autism, credits FFA with helping her son cope with his disability. “It’s his first year to show a steer − it’s been wonderful for him,” Schaub said. “He has come a long way and I am very, very proud of him.” The show will feature a live auction which allows students to recoup the money they spend raising the animals over the year, as well as a silent auction that will benefit the FFA Scholarship Fund for graduating seniors.
