Local man threatens restaurant with shotgun

wicker A Magnolia area man was arrested after entering a restaurant with a shotgun and resisting arrest Jan. 5.

Around 7 p.m., James Wicker, 55, of Plantersville, attempted to enter Church’s Chicken with a shotgun hidden under his long coat, according to the Magnolia Police Department.

As he entered the building, a 63-year-old male, who is a Magnolia resident and former Marine, noticed Wicker had a gun. The man distracted Wicker and removed the shotgun from his possession.

Wicker was then forced outside of the building and the restaurant locked its doors. Once outside, Wicker pulled out a knife and began threatening citizens in the area.

Magnolia Police Officer Diaz was dispatched to the scene, where he observed Wicker with the knife in his hand. Wicker failed to comply with Diaz, at which point a Taser was deployed and Wicker was taken into custody.

Det. B. Clack said officers do not know the motive for Wicker’s actions.

Wicker was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Retaliation. He was transported to the Montgomery County Jail and as of press time remained in custody with a $50,000 bond.
